How to choose fabric for underwear and base layers

Begin with how closely the garment sits against the skin and how much support or warmth it needs. Everyday underwear usually prioritizes a soft hand, low bulk, breathability, and flexible recovery. Base layers may also need moisture movement, quick drying, thermal retention, or cooling performance depending on season and activity. This selection ranges from lightweight free-cut knits to firmer interlocks and bonded constructions for body panels, trims, and layering pieces.

Evaluate composition, GSM, and knit structure together. A higher spandex percentage does not automatically provide better fit: density, yarn tension, finishing, and garment pattern also affect stretch and recovery. Before bulk production, test opacity, pilling, colorfastness, repeated stretch, wash stability, and comfort on the intended garment. For bonded or free-cut designs, confirm seam method, adhesive compatibility, and raw-edge performance.

Selected underwear and base-layer fabrics begin at a 200 kg MOQ, while heavier composite developments may require 1,000 kg. Share the garment type, season, target GSM, hand feel, support level, color, finish, and construction method before sampling.
